Learning & Employment Records (LER)

A generic term to describe digital spaces designed to help learners display their credentials and achievements. According to Jobs for the Future, a LER is “a comprehensive digital record of a worker’s skills and competencies. LERs can document learning wherever it occurs, and they may include records of people’s credentials, degrees, and employment histories.”


Learning Impact

The global program (including annual conference and awards competition) which means to recognize and accelerate innovation within educational technology in ways which have an impact on learners. 

Example: The nomination period for the 2023 Learning Impact competition closed on February 28. Winners will be announced on June 7, 2023 during the Learning Impact Conference.

Learning Object Repository (LOR)

The terms LOR and CMS are sometimes interchangeably used in reference to the digital libraries.


Learning Record Store

A general term that describes where learning activities are collected. 



Learning Tools Interoperability® Resource Search

A related specification that defines how a platform can enable a search functionality for external repositories of learning objects. In LTI Resource search the workflow and UI is controlled by the platform.

A gradebook column



LMS

Learning Management System. A platform that provides access to the digital content of courses. It may include the sequence of lessons, content, activities, chat tool, and other tools. Some LMS have digital libraries, other may include a Lesson Planner.


LTI

Learning Tools Interoperability® (LTI) is an interoperability standard developed by 1EdTech. LTI establishes a standard way of integrating rich learning applications with platforms like learning management systems, portals, or other educational environments. LTI enables districts to securely connect their learning platforms and tools while reducing the time and significant costs associated with developing separate product integrations.

LTI Advantage

LTI Advantage is the marketing term given to the bundling of certifications within the LTI 1.3 catalog.  It is the name given to the bundling of LTI 1.3 Core along with the 3 companion services defined previously (Names & Roles, Assignment and Grades, and Deep Linking). 



LTI Advantage Complete

LTI Advantage the certification awarded when a system certifies for the LTI Advantage services.  For a platform, it must be LTI 1.3 Core and all 3 services, for a Tool it is LTI 1.3 Core and any of the companion services that make sense for their use cases (as judged by 1Edtech when awarding certification).
